Apposition. s. f. v. L'action d'apposer. L'apposition du scellé se fit dans les formes ordinaires. il sera pourveu à la seureté de ces effets, de ces titres, de ces papiers par apposition de scellé.
Apposition, en termes de Grammaire & de Rhetorique se dit lorsqu'on joint un substantif à un autre en mesme cas, pour marquer quelque attribut particulier de la chose dont on parle. Ainsi dans ces exemples. Ciceron l'Orateur Romain. Attila le Fleau de Dieu. ses pleurs tesmoins de sa douleur. L'Orateur Romain, le Fleau de Dieu, tesmoins de sa douleur, sont des appositions.
Apposition, en Mathematique se dit aussi quand on ajouste une quantité continuë à une autre. Cette quantité est de tant, & par apposition, en y ajoustant, &c.
